The Weekends Rugby
2 out of 3 games called correctly by the Don a whopping 25-1 first tryscorer bet on Wallace in the Ireland game. A guiness toast to him for that one.
Unfortunately the Italians socring the first try scuppered big profits in the first tryscorer bets in the Wales game but regular backers of Shane Williams still collected on the e/w bet. Handicap came in comfortable. Spread betters again will have taken the bookies to the cleaners on that one.
Englands performance (or was it lack of a French performance?) was a surprise meaning not much to shout about in that game.
All round a very profitable week. Sale and Bristol came up trumps, as did Leeds Rhinos. Gloucester were the biggest disapointment.
Watch out for this weekends tips later in the week. If you want a bit of interest in the Cricket, back Kevin Pietersen to be Englands top run scorer and Matthew Hoggard to be top wicket taker. Have singles and a cheeky double. I fancy England to take the series as well so this could be worth a little go.
Six Nations Betting League - Round 3 standings
The same three contenders continue to occupy the top three places as we pass the midway stage of the Six Nations competition. Again, the order has changed, with ‘brandon145′ surging into the league following his winning first tryscorer bet in the Ireland v Scotland game.
‘johnrdownes’ has closed the gap on ‘kelvinlittle’ who hasn’t moved since week 1. ‘Irishreg’ has opened up some daylight between 4th spot and the chasing pack in the twenties.
There’s another break this week, but the two final rounds are sure to see some movement in the standings as those lower down the leagues go for broke on long odds bets.

The Don’s Spread Betting Tips
Right then. If you don’t have a spread betting account open one as here’s your chance to win some big money! Follow this link and open an account with Sporting Index who are the best in the market.
If you haven’t ever spread bet before use the Gloucester v Newcastle game this weekend as a taster. You need only risk £1 per point (or even less) so you can still win a tidy sum without risking much at all. Sporting index also have loads of special offers and you will get free bets once you have made a few bets. Its free, quick, very simple and totally secure.
Gloucester (off the back of an away defeat to Bristol) are at home to Newcastle. After the loss last week Dean Ryan exploded and publicly shamed his team - they will hit back in anger this week. The spread will probably be 12-14 points (based on the bookmakers early handicap market). Bite their hands off…buy Gloucester!
Newcastle are without nearly their whole back line (Wilko, Flood, Noon & Tait) and their pack is awful. Gloucester haven’t lost many players to the 6 nations and should thump Newcastle. I would expect a 22 point plus win. In this case you would make 8 x your stake, since the winning margin would be 8 points more than the spread (22 point win - 14 point bookie spread). One word of caution…if Gloucester only win by 10 points you would lose 4 x your stake, but as they say, high risk, high reward and this bet is as close to a dead cert as they come.
Firstly deposit a sum into your account then click on the rugby tab on the right hand side. The winning margin bet will be the top option on the screen for the match, put your stake (e.g £1 which effectively means £1 per point, £5 means £5 per point etc) in the box and click on buy to back Gloucester to win by more than the spread they are quoting at that point. Check what this is before you decide whether to go ahead and you will then be moved to another screen which describes the bet you intend to place and at this point you can confirm or cancel the bet. Check this carefully before confirming the bet and then watch the money come rolling in! The bet can be closed out through the ‘open bets’ section in ‘my account’ prior to kick off.
Similarly, in the rugby league buy Leeds Rhinos at 22 vs the Catalans. Leeds have been on fire and should put over 50 points on the Dragons. Say they win 55-10, that is a winning margin of 45 against a spread of 22 = a win of 23 x your stake! Don’t forget though, if Leeds win by 15, it’s a loss of 7 x your stake. Looking at these examples I know what I like the look of! Have a go on this one and you could pay for your last minute skiing holiday!
Good luck. These are the bets which are exciting and can really make your week. Have a look at the Sporting Index site, follow their clear explanations of how spread betting works, then open an account and get on and explore this exciting way of relieving the bookies of their money. We’ll be featuring lots more spread betting tips on this site to make sure we all come out on top!

The Don’s 6 Nations Tips
Well, what can we say about the last round of 6 nations matches other than my predictions were broadly correct! Wales (somewhat fortuitously thanks to the dodgy video ref - my brown envelope arrived with him safely then!) covered their handicap, as did Italy. The France game was close to call but at half time who would have predicted the final score. I hope you got on Clerc to score the first try as he was included after my article was published. So this week…
France vs England
Since the Tonga match which is five second halves (240 minutes of international rugby + injury time) England have scored just 24 points, all from Wilkinson’s left boot. No tries at all. A good longer odds bet on this basis is England to be winning at h/t but to lose at f/t (5-1) or draw at h/t, France at f/t (c.28-1). The full time handicap of France at - 7 looks generous to me and well worth a punt. Clerc, Heymans and Rougerie will be eyeing up Balshaw and Volcano and will really fancy their chances. If the French inexperienced spine stands up and the pack secures 40-45% possession they will win comfortably.
However, half time could be the time to bet on this game. Backing France on the handicap at this point should pay dividends (assuming the game is still close). I can’t look much further than Clerc and Heymans @ 9s/10s for the first tryscorers for the French. Will the Volcano errupt? Probably not as he doesn’t have a clue where to stand and is unlikely to ever get passed the ball. If you fancy England tryscorers, Toby Flood @ 15-1 is on a hot scoring streak at the moment. An England forward try is more likely in my opinion so have a go on Haskell and Easter e/w at around 25-1.
By the way, an interesting officiating team for this game - Steve Walsh reffing with Alain Rolland and the Italian TMO from the Wales game last week!! There will be some very dodgy decisions.
Wales vs Italy
Wales have ‘rested’ some key players and the front row looks very vunerable to me. The Italian’s strength. However, they will win the match but the handicap is at - 13. This could be a bit toppy but Bortolussi, the Italian kicker is missing which is key. Take Wales to cover the handicap. Wales to win by 15-20 points is well worth a punt at 5-1. Again 1st tryscorer bets on little Shane Williams @ 8-1 and Martyn Williams @22-1 with Dwayne Pee @ 15-1 also worth a go. If you think the Italians will score a try, go with Parisse and Mauro Bergamasco who have longer odds.
Ireland vs Scotland
Ireland will take great confidence from their 2nd half display in Paris. Scotland can take nothing from their 2 games so far and their talisman, Chris Patterson looks terribly out of form and he is starting at 10. Dan Parks is backup on the bench and I dont think Ireland will be quaking in their boots!! Ireland have also finally decided to start picking their team on form rather than reputation. The bet of the weekend surely is Ireland on the handicap at -12. First tryscorer bet has to be Tommy Bowe who has been absolutely on fire recently. Also have a go on Dempsey, Wallace and Reddan (all e/w).
In the premiership (pre handicap announcements) look at Glouscester to beat Newcastle very easily (possibly a good spread bet is to buy the winning margin here). Have a cheeky bet on Sale to beat Leicester away either outright or with the handicap (around +5). Wasps may struggle a bit without their England contingent so take Bristol with their handicap (assuming + 8ish). Happy punting. Lets put the bookies away this week.

WGC Accenture World Match Play Betting

Wednesday sees the start of the WGC Accenture Match Play in Arizona, the first event of the 2008 World Golf Championships. It’s an unusual format for the players, but defending champion Henrik Stenson summed it up succinctly recently, observing that, “You’ve got your opponent and you either do better or worse.”
Whenever anyone talks about golf betting, Tiger Woods is always the favourite. This competition is no exception, and rightly so - he’s won 8 out of the last 9 tournaments he’s played.
However, Tiger’s record in match play isn’t as good as his strokeplay and isn’t really worth backing. He hasn’t won the Accenture event since 2004, and his Ryder Cup record isn’t too strong either. His first round match is against rookie JB Holmes, one of the biggest hitters on the tour, and there’s an outside chance that Woods will fall at the first hurdle - a lay bet with Betfair might be a good option.
Phil Mickelson may be a better bet for the title - his Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup record is excellent, and he has found some good form of late on the tour. He also looks to have a more straightforward run to the third round, unlike Woods who is likely to face Mike Weir in Round 2. Mickelson is available at 14/1 with Boylesports and totesport.
Trevor Immelman is one of the dark horses (at 80-1 with Betfred), having enjoyed success both in this format and on this course. He’s in the same section of the draw as Ernie Els, who nearly didn’t enter because he never wins - Immelman could make sure Els’ misfortune continues, and might be worth a small each way bet.
Matchplay specialist Angel Cabrera has also been tipped at 66/1 - he faces Anders Hansen in the first round. If you back him on Betfair at these odds, they’ll shorten dramatically when he reaches the second round. You can then lay the bet at much shorter odds, close out your original position and walk away with a tidy profit.
Have a look at Extrabet for good odds on this event - they will also let you sell the bet back to them at a given price as the tournament progresses, which is similar to laying the bet at Betfair.
Good luck!
Champions League enters the knockout stages
Tonight sees the return of Champions League action, with Liverpool and Chelsea representing England this evening, whilst Arsenal and Manchester United must wait until tomorrow.
A 1-0 away win for Chelsea at Olympiakos may be an option, available at 11/2 with Bet365 - the Greeks are notoriously difficult to break down, so it probably won’t be a goalfest!
Following Wayne Rooney’s fine display against Arsenal at the weekend, he looks attractive as an each way bet at 7/1 to score first with Ladbrokes and BlueSq.
Big wins on games like these are hard to come by, since the bookies tend to be fairly knowledgeable, but if you can pick the winners of every game, you’ll get a tidy profit from an accumulator bet.

The Weekend
Well punters, I hope that Le Havre tip paid for the weekends partying!!
Not a bad week. Le Havre was the bet of the year, never mind the week. A couple of let downs on the footy but a nice 5 timer if you got hold of it. Liverpool were the bookies saviour this week so hope you all manged to avoid those donkeys. Liverpool without Gerrard and Torres are as much use as the Swiss Navy.
As predicted Rooney did score 1st. Hope we were all on that. Rugby union was a let down, a well below par Gloucester performance and Saracens losing to a kick at the death. Look out for the 6 Nations tips at the end of the week.
The talk of the betting world this week has been Kauto Star and the upcoming Cheltenham Festival featuring the Gold Cup. What a performance that was. Surely a dead cert for the big race. Disappointing run from Kicking King leaves what looks like a race off between Denman and stable mate Kauto Star. Forecast reverse (i,e 1st and 2nd in any order) may be the bet on that depending on how the odds move. I fancy Knowhere @29-1 for 3rd spot. Saw him run a couple of weeks and he absolutely romped home. You heard it here first! My e/w tip. Early I know but I’m already excited about it!!
Watch out this week for The Dons guide to spread betting. In preparation if you don’t have a sporting index account yet, click on the link on the right hand side of this page and set one up. Its quick, easy and free with no obligation. A great way to make big money when the bookies get the spreads wrong (which they do with surprising frequency). A great way to bet on bets which settle a long time in the future (ie season / tournament bets) as you can close them out whenever you like and book big profits. Open one now to make sure you dont miss the golden chance to beat those nasty bookies. I will be keeping my eyes open and ears to the ground to find a big winner to get everyone off to a winning spread bet.
The Dons Latest Tips
Hello all. Hope you have been punting your way to a healthy profit this week. A shame about Bayern but still very tidy profits.
Anyway, onwards and upwards. The following selections should have the bookies running for cover this weekend. In addition to the FA cup bets try these selections. My tip would be to have a small bet on an 8 fold acca and a couple of quid on four folds (i.e a combo of any four of the list below, ultimately if 4 or 5 teams win you will be in profit).
Forest Green, East Fife, Swansea, Notts Forest, Peterborough, Darlington, Stockport and Portsmouth.
Big tip this week is Le Havre. They are top of the French Division 2 and are playing the bottom club. Odds far far too good to miss. Chester have also been absolutely awful recently so if you’re feeling brave take Notts County (who have been distinctly average recently!!).
Euro Acca take Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcalona and AC Milan.
In the Guiness Premiership take Saracens to beat Newcastle away. They will be looking for revenge for their defeat earlier in the season and are a tasty bet at evens.
Gloucester should be too strong to Bristol so take them with a handicap of -4.
In the Super League take Leeds with a handicap of -8 against Wakefield. Also take the Catalans to beat Hull KR straight up.
FA Cup 5th Round Betting Tips
The showpiece of the weekend’s football will be the clash between Manchester United and Arsenal. As The Don says, United rarely lose three games in a row, and with home advantage, we are backing them for the win.
Wayne Rooney has a great record against the gunners, and he is our tip to fire one home first, available at 13/2 with Boylesports and totesport. The Scorecast bet could be a good option with Rooney to score and United to win 1-0, currently available at 29/1 with VC Bet.
On the rest of the coupon, The Don fancies East Fife and Swansea to win, with Bristol Rovers drawing with Southampton.
As everyone knows, anything can happen in the FA Cup - back the right team and you can really beat the bookie. Have a good and successful weekend.
