Strictly Come Dancing betting

Strictly Come Dancing

After the excitement of the Ryder Cup, there’s a bit of a lull in top sporting action - it’s the beginning of the season in many sports and events like the Heineken Cup and the climax to the Formula One season are still a few weeks away.

But sports fans shouldn’t worry too much - Strictly Come Dancing is underway again on the BBC with a few big sporting names to keep an eye on.

Rugby star Austin Healey seems to have installed himself as favourite after one round, available at 7/2 with Coral. Swimmer Mark Foster is on at 12/1 with Paddy Power, whilst British tennis player Andrew Castle is at 20/1 with totesport.

Sportsmen and women have been known to do pretty well in this competition, with Matt Dawson, Colin Jackson, Darren Gough and Mark Ramprakash all starring in previous series.

Nevertheless, Rachel Stevens is worth a punt at 4/1 with Boylesports - she isn’t a sportswoman…but she is a dancer!

Ryder Cup preview and betting

Ryder Cup

This weekend’s fixture in Valhalla is possibly one of the most widely anticipated events the sport has ever seen. The action will be broadcast in more countries than ever before, non-golfers are getting just as excited and the Europeans are considerable favourites.

I’m looking forward to another European victory Away from home. I can’t see it being another crushing defeat, but I think Nick Faldo’s team has the quality to bring home the spoils. Another 18.5-9.5 is 40/1 with Paddy Power, but I like the look of Europe to win 15-13 at 11/1 with the same bookie.

Padraig Harrington, back-to-back Open winner and US Open champion, is the trump card in Europe’s pack. Not only will he carry an air of confidence that will rub off on his team mates, but his presence will strike fear into the American team as the Irishman is living evidence of the shift in power to Europe.

Sergio Garcia is also one to watch. The charismatic Spaniard loves the Ryder Cup and his maverick style suits matchplay ideally, even if it hasn’t yet won him a major, and is a great character to have in the dressing room. I’d like to see the young gun paired with Miguel Angel Jimenez in what could be our strongest pairing.

Garcia is available at 4/1 with Boylesports and Bet365 (among others) to be the top European point scorer whilst Harrington is 11/2.

There are hundreds of markets available, such as the total number of halved matches, or the top wildcard pick performance, so I suggest you pick a good online bookie such as Paddy Power that often has the best odds and take your pick.

It should be a fascinating weekend, and the betting in running potential is exciting, so strap yourself to your favourite armchair and enjoy.

Update - Special Offer

Paddy Power are offering a Money Back Special - if you bet on a singles match on Sunday and it finishes on or before the 15th hole, you’ll get your money back.

Return of the Guinness Premiership - Gloucester for the title

Guinness Premiership

I am pleased to report that we are on a bit of a roll here at The Betting Blog. The Olympic Gold Rush helped us beat the spread at Sporting Index, and with England’s ODI emphatic series following in close succession, we are feeling rather smug.

The positive frame of mind is helped significantly by the excitement of the return of rugby’s Guinness Premiership, arguably the finest, most competitive league in world rugby.

Last season, we waved goodbye to some old friends in Richard Hill and Lawrence Dallaglio, but this year we will welcome a number of exciting new faces into the fold.

Nick Evans at Harlequins, Greg Somerville at Gloucester, Chris Latham at Worcester…the list goes on to ensure that this season will be very entertaining.

At the same time, however, it’s a very difficult league to predict. London Wasps, Leicester, Bath, Sale, Gloucester, Harlequins, Saracens and London Irish could all feasibly win the title - I can argue a good case for each of them, so let me know if you disagree!

However, my money is on Dean Ryan’s Gloucester boys. They have been creating a winning squad for a few years now, and their miserable defeats in the knockout stages will galvanise the team at the business end of the season, and they ought to prevail.

Boylesports are offering the best odds at 9/2 to lift the trophy at Twickenham, or you can get 4/1 with Totesport that they’ll top the table at the end of the regular season.

Quins are an attractive 16/1 also with Boylesports to lead at the end of the regular season - with All Black Nick Evans running the show at fly-half, they should be a much improved outfit and this is worth a small bet.
