Champions League Betting: Anyone fancy a game?

The final round of group games offers a d-day scenario for some and a midweek nuisance for others…

Wolfsburg v Man Utd

As Manchester United’s injury concerns continue to mount and Champions League qualification already secured this really is a game that Alex Ferguson could do without.

Wolfsburg caused them no end of problems in the reverse of this fixture at Old Trafford and took a deserved second half lead, which they eventually squandered to lose 2-1. However, with the home side priced up as the 11/10 favourites I’ll be staying clear of the Match Odds market on this one.

The market that interests me is the Over/Under 2.5 goals market. Wolfsburg’s domestic home games produce the most goals in Bundesliga with a massive average of 4.6 per game. With Manchester United’s defensive injury woes I can’t see how this game can finish with less than three goals and will be backing Over 2.5 goals at 1.95 with Betfair.

Juventus v Bayern Munich

This is undoubtedly the game of the night as these two European heavyweights go head to head for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. Anything but victory for the German side will see them crash out and the Italians progress.

Juventus couldn’t have come into this game in better spirits having recorded a hugely impressive 2-1 win over Inter in Serie A at the weekend. Bayern also come into the game on the back of consecutive victories and the truth is that this one couldn’t be better poised.

Juventus are the 5/4 favourites with Bet365 but in a game that they do not need to win I will be once again staying clear of the Match Odds market. Again it is goals that I am interested in.

Bayern have to throw everything into this one and manager Louis van Gaal has already stated his intentions to do so. That should inevitably lead to an open game in theory leading to plenty of goal scoring opportunities, therefore at 2.4 (11/8) with Betfair this has to be a perfect opportunity to back Over 2.5 goals.
