Championship Betting: West Brom v QPR

Newcastle offered up a rare opportunity for the chasing pack to close the gap on them this weekend, can West Brom take full advantage?

Cardiff certainly didn’t miss out on the opportunity, having beaten West Brom last week they then went to the Riverside and took all three points this weekend, and the biggest concern for The Baggies manager Roberto Di Matteo will be to re-establish a gap between themselves and Cardiff in third place.

That type of concern is something QPR fans can only dream about for their club as the Loftus Road soap opera continues to throw up fascinating story lines every week. Fascinating that is if you are not involved, those who are involved with the club will be finding it closer to traumatic.

Jim Magilton’s suspension from the club after an alleged head butting incident came amidst a run of just one victory in seven games which has seen them slip to 14th in the league table. The question we have to ask is how will this affect the players?

These types of incidents tend to work one of two ways, it either galvanises the players and they produce a memorable performance or they go in to their shells and the problems are compounded. Youth team coaches Steve Gallen and Mark Bircham have been handed the task of making sure that it is the former scenario.

With QPR potentially having a wounded animal mentality within the team I think there has to be value in taking West Brom on by laying them on Betfair at around the 1.7 mark.

The other market of particular interest is the Over/Under 2.5 goals market, despite a high scoring reputation only 50% of West Brom home games have had three goals or more whilst QPR away games have only produced over 2.5 goals on three out of ten times. That means that the 5/4 on Under 2.5 goals at VC Bet has to be a good value back.
