Premier League Betting: The important Christmas period kicks off here

Four games in the next two weeks could make or break the hopes and aspirations of many of the Premier League sides…

Sunderland v Aston Villa

The lack of points being picked up on the road by Sunderland is putting increasing pressure on their home form and the visit of the in-form Aston Villa will not be welcomed. 63% of Sunderland home games have produced over 2.5 goals whilst 63% of Villa’s away games have produced under 2.5 goals. That suggests that the Over/Under 2.5 goals market should be an even money bet, but overs is available at 2.2 on Betfair and looks a wise back.

Birmingham v Blackburn

It doesn’t look like Sky have made the best of choices for the neutrals when choosing this Tuesday night’s game as goals don’t look to be on the agenda. No ground in England has seen fewer goals than St. Andrews this season and Blackburn have now had three consecutive 0-0 draws.

In the match odds market Birmingham are deserved favourites, but I think that a string of narrow victories have made their odds a tad too short and this is a good time to take them on. Ladbrokes are offering 5/2 on a Blackburn win and Blackburn (Draw no Bet) at 6/4.

Bolton v West Ham

Bolton’s 3-3 draw with Man City will have buoyed their players and supporters but I still think that they are in for a long hard season. West Ham have showed positive glimpses in recent games and if they can put it all together over a full 90 minutes then they will begin to pick up the points they need.

Again at short odds I think Bolton are worth taking on tonight. Bet 365 are offering 12/5 on West Ham winning and 11/8 on the Draw no Bet option.

Man Utd v Wolves

After a defeat it is always good to get back to winning ways as early as possible, and unfortunately for Wolves they must make the trip to Old Trafford just three days after Man United’s loss to Aston Villa.

The Betfair correct score market has an ‘Any Unquoted’ option which covers all correct score options where either team score four or more. For this game it is available at 3.65 and I think Alex Ferguson will want his men to put pay to the weekend’s defeat with an emphatic victory tonight.

Recommended bets:

4* – Back Blackburn (Draw no Bet) @ 6/4 with Ladbrokes

4* – Back West Ham to win @ 12/5 with Bet365

3* – Back Any Unquoted score in Man Utd game @ 3.65 with Betfair
