It’s crunch time in the Premier League group stages with five players vying for the remaining three semi final places.
Phil Taylor has already secured a place in the top four after winning all of his nine fixtures since defeat on the opening night. This evening he has an opportunity to exact revenge for his only loss when he takes on Adrian Lewis. Although Taylor’s form has been imperious Lewis definitely has what it takes to beat The Power, or at least push him all the way. Take the 10/11 on Lewis with a +3.5 leg handicap tonight.
Raymond van Barneveld can take a big stride towards the semi finals by defeating Terry Jenkins tonight. Only Phil Taylor and an inspired Simon Whitlock have been able to handle the Dutchman in recent weeks and so at odds of 4/6 I wouldn’t look past a Barney win here.
To say Mark Webster’s debut season in the Premier League has been disappointing would be an understatement. Although he recorded the highest three-dart average of the tournament in week four he has learned the hard way that inconsistency does not go unpunished in this competition. After a now customary slow start to the season James Wade looks to be getting back to his best and can make it three consecutive wins here. Back him to pick up the two points at odds of 8/11.
That brings us to what is, in my opinion, the biggest match of the night when second-placed Gary Anderson takes on fourth-placed Simon Whitlock. The Scot edged the first meeting between the two 8-5 on the opening night of the league, despite Whitlock having the better three-dart average. It proved to be the beginning of a stuttering start for the Aussie but three wins in his last four matches mean that he is on the brink of a semi final berth.
In defeating Barney at Aberdeen a fortnight ago Whitlock was, quite simply, brilliant. Although a slight hiccup against the resurgent James Wade halted him in his tracks last week I’ve seen enough over the past month to suggest that The Wizard is overpriced at odds of 2/1 for the win tonight. If you want to err on the side of caution then 11/8 is available in the Draw No Bet market but our bet of the day is to back the Aussie to pick up maximum points.
Recommended Bets;
Back Lewis +3.5 legs @ 10/11
Back Barney to win @ 4/6
Back Wade to win @ 8/11
Back Whitlock to win @ 2/1
