This Week’s Rugby Tips from The Don

The Don

Welcome to the The Betting Blog. I am The Don, your resident expert tipster. Watch this space for some of the best tips you will find anywhere and best of all it’s free! If you don’t have a betting account set up, click through any of the links on the site and set one up today. It’s quick, very simple and totally secure and a great way to add interest to sporting events and to make some additional lolly.

England face a tricky trip to Rome on the back of a confidence draining home defeat at the hand of Warren Gatland’s Wales team. How will they react? To a certain degree it depends on how the Italians play but a full week of training for the Italians with Nick Mallet will have a bigger impact than a week with Ashton and ‘his’ coaching ‘team’ who seem to be devoid of ideas and direction. The start will be key.

Have a punt on the Italians with a handicap of +15. A good cover being a couple of England first tryscorers. Go with the Volcano, Easter and a bet on Balsup (yes I know but it would be typical for him to pop up and finish off a try in a Girvan Dempsey like manner). For the Italians Parisse is the tryscorer bet, with Mauro Bergamasco another longer odds possibility.

A good bet if you think England will lose is to back them to get the wooden spoon in the tournament at around 22-1. Tricky trips to Paris and Murrayfield remain, with a home match against Ireland. No slam dunks left there. The bet can always be laid off on Betfair after the game if they lose at no doubt much much shorter odds (at a guess 14s i.e. you effectively get 8-1 on an Italy win).

Wales will be full of confidence and should be far too good for the Scots. Wales at -9 look the bet with ‘little’ Shane Williams always a good each way first tryscorer bet @ 9-1, with Martyn Williams another good bet @ 20-1 e/w.

France vs Ireland is a toughie to call. It depends which French team turns up (and which crowd at the Stade De France!). There does seem to be renewed optimism amongst the French after the loss of ‘The Professor’ to politics. However, they have strangely left out Vincent Clerc, arguably the sharpest finisher in the Northern Hemisphere since Chris Oti! Bookies have got this one right with the handicap at 12 points. Small stake on France perhaps. First tryscorer Rougerie @ 9s could be the bet.

Unfortunately I missed a trick last weekend……. My number 1 betting tip, when Alain Rolland referees a French team back them heavily to cover any handicap (or even to win if they are an outsider). So far hasn’t been one exception. Read what you like into that!

Pre any team news, on the domestic front Sale could be the best bet to win away at Wasps who have had the heart ripped out of their team during the 6 nations. The mercurial Seabass to score first is a decent e/w bet along with Luke McAllister and George Skivington from Wasps at long odds. Other Premiership games are tough to call. Sarries to win by less than 15 points and Leicester to upset Glos.

Lets make some wedge this week.

The Italians at +15 is a great option. I think the game is going to be really tight - the Italian defence is pretty strong and England’s backs don’t look that strong in attack at the moment.

I’m a little bit worried they might turn us over, but I’m too patriotic to bet on an Italy win.

I’ve gone for Gomersall as first tryscorer - I can see him sniping around the fringes.

Paddy Power are offering to refund all losing tryscorer and winning margin bets if Ireland beat France this weekend.
